Our chapter
has one main community service project. We construct and smock preemie
gowns for the neo-natal units of local hospitals.
The gowns are used for preemie babies and bereavement.
A recent
benefactor of the preemie gowns program wrote:
"Hi,
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful work you and your guild
do. I actually met you at the L.D. Bell craft fair and told you
about my son that was in the Harris NICU. You told us that your
guild donated to that hospital. Well, the Monday after that,
December the 5th, Ethan passed away. After they took all the
"medical stuff" off him, they gave him a bath and put him in one of
the little smocks ya'll had made. It was very cute and tiny with
little sailboats and the perfect color of baby blue to match his
eyes. It fit him perfectly. The nurses took pictures of him in it
and those are some of the best pictures I have of him. Anyway, I
just wanted to say how much I appreciate the wonderful work that you
and your guild do. I will have that little smock that my son wore
forever."
The project
is in dire need of your support. If each member could contribute
one gown a month, we would have almost 500 gowns a year! It is a
big dream, but a worthy one.
